Year
2022 / 2023

During 2022 / 2023, now the academic world starts going back to business as usual after the pandemic years, Brill continues the corporate policy to focus more and more on digital marketing. This means email marketing, social media marketing and digital marketing has become the norm. Except for certain regions in the world, where “digital business” does not entirely work. For these areas Clavis Aurea has the responsibility to develop promotional material in print as well as in digital format.

Amongst them are subject catalogues, brochures, flyers and posters. Below we showcase the products we have developed together with our designers and are most proud of. This is just a tip of the iceberg, by the way.

For Brill the Middle East and North African countries are amongst their key areas in terms of development and scholarly activities. From its first Arabic text in 1732 to today, Brill’s books have helped build the scholarship of what is today broadly called Middle East and Islamic studies. Their Middle East and Islamic Studies program publishes reference works, books and journals that are all indispensable and highly acclaimed resources. Among key subject areas covered in this program are History, Politics, Economics, Law, Theology, Philosophy, and Arabic Language, Linguistics and Literature.

In order to feature Brill’s Major Online Reference Works, we have created below brochure. The front and back cover of the brochure gives a mix of a traditional as well as a contemporary feel to the overall design, and to the brand value of the publishing company. On the inside we have given a brief overview of the company’s history and their added value to the field, listed the other subject areas Brill publishes in and the type of products they bring out each year.

Annually, many book fairs, conferences and events take place in the publishing industry everywhere around the globe. Brill makes sure not to miss any one of them where they are expected to be to engage with their scholars, customer base and business partners. One of the most important ones for the DACH region is the Deutscher Bibliothekartag that takes place in a different city each year. For the 110. Deutscher Bibliothekartag in Leipzig we developed, together with the marketing and sales people at Brill and imprints, the setup for that event’s booth.

Here are the designs of the panels for the booth we came up with. Since in 2021 Brill acquired Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht Verlage, a major publishing company whose revenue amounted to c. 10 million euro in 2020, there has been an increase in the number of imprints for Brill. The logos of these imprints are square tiles, with their own style and color, which inspired us to apply this in the theme for these panels. Showcasing upcoming major online resources, E-Book purchase options and E-Book collections were part of our main objectives, and voila: this is the result.

Brill is one of the largest Open Access publishers in the Humanities and Social Sciences. As an early adopter, they have published 32 full Open Access journals and thousands of Open Access articles. It is Brill’s ambition to make Open Access publishing possible to authors anywhere in the world, regardless of background or budget.

In order for Brill to achieve this goal, we have created four Open Access marketing products: two brochures (one with general information, the other specifically for librarians), a flyer, and a poster. The latter both for conferences and events. The brochure has been very well received by Brill people as well as with their authors, customers and librarians.

Conclusion: this project is a great success!
